The jaguar is pre-Hispanic — a god, a guardian, a symbol of power across ancient Mesoamerica. But look closer. Its body carries tattoos: American icons, pop culture marks, the everyday language of the Caribbean coast. Two worlds on the same skin. That tension is Tulum.

Ercilia Cepeda

Through her work Ercilia Cepeda reveals her vocation to dialectically express the truth and the creative talent to be found in the unconscious, as well as the lies. These paintings represent a record of her journey through her own psyche during which we are presented with moments of intense anguish and pain with no hint of pleasure, moments of loneliness with no hint of redemption, and an introspection that allows no concessions.
